Some have referred to him as “the new Thierry Henry”, others have named him “the best teenager in football history” while some others have labeled him “2018 Golden boy”. Regardless of the names and titles, there is no denying that he is definitely one football player to look out for. His lightening quick speed, high precision in dribbling and technical prowess is remarkably outstanding. Considering the fact that he is only 19, he still has a lot more years ahead of him. To put this in perspective, it is worth noting that Mbappe wasn’t born the last time France hosted and won the World Cup in 1998.
Previously a forward at Monaco, his strategic move to Paris Saint German (PSG) in 2017 has been recorded as one of the most expensive transfers till date (only second to Neymar’s). With a whooping €180 Million deal, his is one of the most expensive fees paid on a player and the highest fee paid to a teenager till date. Currently a player in a star-filled team as PSG with the likes of global stars, Neymar and Cavani, Mbappe still continues to shine. PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi stated that Mbappe is without a doubt the most promising in the world.
The Paris Saint German and most recently the French national team forward displayed an outstanding performance scoring two goals in four minutes of the second half in France’s 4-3 win against Messi’s Argentina. He has therefore become the first teenager to score more than one goal in a World Cup match since Pele’s 1958 double goal in Brazil’s win against Sweden. Receiving several congratulatory messages, one strikable one remains the football legend himself, Pele’s tweet.
Mbappe has definitely showcased himself on the global stage and has given us an unforgettable performance. He is definitely one young man to look out for as he keeps taking giant strides in his football career.
