What happens when you start losing the zeal, drive and energy you once had for your goals and dreams? What do you do when you become deeply indulgent in activities that I term “time wasters” such as watching too much TV, playing video games, social media and their likes. What do you do when you want to accomplish all these big plans but you lack the motivation to even start. With these steps, you could spark up your zeal and accomplish all your goals with ease in this second half of the year.

1. Visualize your dreams.

Take some time and dream again. Visualize the dreams you once had, see yourself accomplishing these dreams with ease and feel the excitement of accomplishing your dreams. If you can see it in your mind then you can accomplish it.

2. Take a break

Sometimes, demotivation can creep into your life simply because you are exhausted. Give yourself a break and come back to the task fresh and inspired. Now, be reasonable with your break (don’t take a lifetime saying you want to feel refreshed ohhhh!)

3. Declutter your space and mind

Another major reason why you could become demotivated could be because you have a lot on your plate. When you have a lot on your mind, it could translate into a clustered space. Spend some time to declutter your space and by doing so, you trick your brain to start afresh.

4. Surround yourself with items that inspire you

Play soothing music, place a vision board of your dreams in a place where you can see it everyday, listen to motivational speeches and read motivational blog posts like this one ;). Ensure that you always have items that inspire you around and watch how motivated you become.

5. Break up big tasks into several smaller ones

Sometimes we set so many lengthy goals that we end up not focusing on anyone (refer to previous post on New Year Resolutions: To Write or Not to Write – http://234boulevard.com/new-year-resolutions-to-write-or-not-to-write/). To help us better manage our goals and tasks, break down big goals into several pieces.

6. Move to another location

This is one powerful step you could do to trick your brain that you have started afresh. This is one I do a lot. I realized that changing location when demotivated sparked up new ideas and charged up my drive. You could also do that to help you get motivated.

7. Celebrate small wins/milestones

When you break down your goals and tasks into smaller ones, you tend to see avenues to celebrate the smaller milestones. Always celebrate your wins to encourage you to do more.

8. Start off with easy tasks

This can be debated upon as some people might say “get the elephant out of the room”. However, when you are demotivated, you don’t feel like getting the elephant out in fact you actually don’t have a problem dining with it. Choose to do the simple tasks first, accomplish them and celebrate them. This would definitely encourage you to accomplish more smaller tasks and then move with ease unto the difficult ones.

9. Surround yourself with people that inspire you

Surrounding yourself with items is one thing however if you don’t have the right people around you, you could lose your zeal. Create friendships with people who have similar or even bigger dreams and aspirations. You would need them to pump up your energy when you are low on it.

10. Never compare yourself to others

Sometimes, being around people that inspire you can actually intimidate you especially when they are doing things you think you’re incapable of. This is why some people feel comfortable  hanging out with those that are on the same level as they are. Comparing yourself to others could lead to envy, low self esteem and demotivation. Never compare yourself to others and stop trying to be like somebody else. Whenever you feel you aren’t good enough, pause and remind yourself that you are uniquely you and can only be the best you that you can be.
